The Range of Appointees

For the 2006 diet of examinations, we appointed over 15,000 Appointees, holding over 20,000 appointments.

Directly involved in the preparation and assessment, there were:

  • 8,900 Markers (7,700 of these were traditional 'Home' markers and 1200 worked as 'Central' markers. Some of the 'Home' markers (121) took part in an 'e-marking' pilot which involved submitting candidates’ marks to SQA online.)
  • 440 Visiting Examiners
  • 520 Question Paper Setters
  • 550 Vetters
  • 140 Scrutineers
  • 430 Examiners
  • 60 Senior Examiners
  • 190 Principal Assessors
  • 30 Speakers
  • 2 Translators
  • 1 Cartographer

Verification of Internal Assessment (this was previously called “Moderation”) involved the services of:

  • 130 Senior Verifiers
  • 1,150 Verifiers

The supervision of the exams in schools and colleges required the appointment of:

  • 520 Chief Invigilators
  • 7,115 Invigilators

In addition to appointments related directly to a year’s examination diet, we also rely on the services of those appointed as NAB Writers, NAB Vetters, Item Bank Writers and Qualification Development Specialists.
